同時(shí)也是兩個(gè)意思：限定詞和代詞。

Other

other ="additional or extra", or "alternative", or "different types of".

other as a determiner

在使用other作為限定詞時(shí)，可以連接到不可數(shù)的名詞和可數(shù)的名詞復(fù)數(shù)：

Some music calms people; other music has the opposite effect. (different types of music)

What other books by Charles Dickens have you read, apart from‘Oliver Twist’? (additional or extra books)

如果other與可數(shù)名詞奇數(shù)連接，則需要在前面添加另一個(gè)限定詞：

Jeremy is at university; our other son is still at school.

注意：other在使用限定詞時(shí)，沒(méi)有復(fù)數(shù)形式。（others）

Mandy and Charlotte stayed behind.The other girls went home. (The others girls...)

other as a pronoun

other作為代詞需要時(shí)間，根據(jù)前后文章的內(nèi)容，可以采用復(fù)數(shù)形式。

We have to solve this problem, more than any other.

I’ll attach two photos to this email and I’ll send others tomorrow.

the other as a determiner

the other和名詞單數(shù)的組合是指兩個(gè)事物或人中的第二個(gè)，也是指事物的對(duì)立面：

The gift shop is on the other side of the street.

the 當(dāng)other與名詞復(fù)數(shù)結(jié)合時(shí)，它指的是一組人或事物中剩下的部分：

Joel and Karen are here, but where are the other kids?

Where are the other two dinner plates? I can only find four.

the other as a pronoun

the 當(dāng)other作為代詞時(shí)，它被用來(lái)指代之前提到的另一個(gè)或更換事物：

He had his hat in one hand and a bunch of flowers in the other.

She has two kittens, one is black and the other is all white.

在指代多個(gè)人或事物時(shí)，the ther還有復(fù)數(shù)形式ther others：

Bob is on his way here, with the others.

Another

another as a determiner

another只能和名詞單數(shù)結(jié)合，指的是另一個(gè)，另一個(gè)：

Would you like another cup of coffee?

You’ve met Linda, but I have another sister who you haven’t met, called Margaret.

another as a pronoun

作為代詞，another也是指前面提到的事物的另一個(gè)或更換：

The applications are examined by one teacher, then passed on to another.
